The National Association for Humane and Environmental Education (NAHEE) is committed to your right to privacy and to keeping your personal information private. You can visit www.kindnews.org without telling us who you are or revealing any identifying information about yourself. However, because kindnews.org includes areas in which visitors can provide personally identifying information, we have developed the Privacy Policy to inform you of our policies and practices regarding information we collect about you on this site.

This Privacy Policy governs the URL http://www.kindnews.org. This web site is owned and operated by NAHEE for the benefit of children and humane educators, teachers, parents, and others interested in teaching children the importance of treating animals, the environment, and one another with kindness and respect. Our headquarters is located at 67 Norwich-Essex Turnpike, East Haddam, CT, 06423. NAHEE reserves the right to modify or amend this Privacy Policy at any time and for any reason. A notice shall be appended to this Privacy Policy at least ten (10) days prior to the effective date of any changes to this Privacy Policy.

How We Collect Information About You

Information You Voluntarily Provide. kindnews.org collects and maintains a very limited amount of personal information about children who complete either of two online forms. One form allows children to submit animal-related riddles for possible publication in KIND News, NAHEE's elementary-level classroom newspaper. The other form enables children to submit animal-related questions for publication in the Ask Dr. Kind feature in KIND News. Information collected is limited to a child's name, mailing address, and e-mail address.

Other Information. kindnews.org also collects certain other information that cannot identify you personally when you visit our web site. This information includes your IP address and your domain name. kindnews.org logs these IP addresses and domain names and aggregates them for system administration and to monitor the use of our site. We use the aggregated information to measure the number of visits to our site, the average time spent on our site, the number of pages viewed, and to generate various other site statistics. This helps us to provide a more useful and engaging online experience to kindnews.org visitors, and to improve the quality of our content.

NAHEE uses cookies to help us identify unique visitors to our sites and to help us determine the length of visitor sessions. Cookies are not used for any other reason on kindnews.org. A cookie is a small file that is sent out by a web site, accepted by the user's browser, and is placed on the user's hard drive. Ways Information About You Is Used

Personal information children provide via online forms in kindnews.org may be used to identify a child in the KIND News newspaper as the source of a question or riddle published in that newspaper. Such personal information will not be used to contact children via e-mail or other means for any purpose other than to obtain a child's mailing address for purposes of sending a thank-you gift should the child's submission be published. We do not make children's voluntary personal information available to third parties. If such information will be used in any manner other than as stated above, such use shall be specifically posted. Protection of Children's Online Privacy

NAHEE understands the importance of protecting children's privacy, especially in an online environment. Protecting children's identities and information online is important. As stated above, kindnews.org does collect the names, mailing addresses, and e-mail addresses of visitors of all ages who submit animal-related riddles or questions via online forms. However,  we do not knowingly solicit any other data from children via kindnews.org nor will NAHEE knowingly accept any other personal data from anyone under 13 on www.kindnews.org.

From time to time, we may link to other web sites not affiliated with NAHEE. NAHEE attempts to link only to those web sites which also respect a visitor's privacy and the goals of NAHEE.
