Ask Dr. Kind

Dear Dr. Kind,

My pets have fleas. What should we do for them?

Leigh
North Carolina

Dear Leigh,

Just remember, safety first. Some flea control products contain harsh chemicals. They can be harmful to pets, especially animals who are very young, old, or sick. Carefully read instructions and warnings on packages before using a product. Better yet, ask your veterinarian to recommend something safe.

Once you're rid of the fleas, here are tips to keep the nibbling nuisances away. Comb pets regularly with a flea comb. Keep pets' favorite sleeping spots vacuumed. The best way to protect cats from fleas is to keep them indoors.

Sincerely,
