Look Who's Kind! |

On Disney XD's Aaron Stone, Tania Gunadi plays Emma, a character with a secret identity. We discovered that Tania has a double life of her own. She's not only a busy actress—she's also an animal shelter volunteer and a foster mom to homeless cats. KIND News: It's wonderful that you volunteer at an animal shelter. What do you do there? Tania Gunadi: When I'm not filming, I volunteer at Animal Services in Los Angeles. I care for their 24 to 30 bunnies. I clean their litter boxes, make sure they have fresh food and water, and give them plenty of hay and fresh veggies. I also help speak with potential adopters about the bunnies and how to care for them. When all that is done, I do the best part—petting them! KN: You also foster cats who are waiting for new homes. Can you tell us more about it? TG: When I began filming Aaron Stone in Canada, I couldn't bring my two cats, Lucy and Ricky, from home. (My vet doesn't think they should travel, so they stay with my family when I'm filming.) I had heard about fostering, so I went online and found a rescue group called Abandoned Cats Rescue. Through them, I fostered two awesome cats, Ben and Jerry. It was an incredible experience. Jerry knew how to play catch, like a dog! Ben much preferred napping. They were adopted after staying with me for two months.
After they were adopted, I fostered Jasmine. She had been separated from her brother, so she was afraid of being left alone. She loved being near me and liked to lie next to me all the time. I just adored her. This year I've been working with Toronto Cat Rescue, fostering Jasper and Mackenzie. They love to follow me around. Jasper likes to burrow under the blankets on the bed. Mackenzie often sleeps right on top of him as if Jasper was a pillow! KN: How does it make you feel to help homeless cats? TG: I feel very lucky that I get to give homeless animals a chance to find a permanent, loving home. And I sure appreciate the love and friendship given to me by the animal. KN: What about your own pet cats, Ricky and Lucy?
TG: Ricky and Lucy are brother and sister who are always together. They're always near me as well, whether I'm studying, sleeping, or playing video games with my friends. I adopted them from a friend when they were 7 years old—now they're 12. They sure are great buddies, even though they can't play Wii or card games! KIND Star Tania Gunadi ● thinks fostering is good for someone who's not sure if they're ready for a pet. "You can see if you're a match to the pet you foster. If so, you can adopt the pet yourself. If not, you can help the pet find a loving home." ● has more in common with Emma than she does with Dark Tamara, Emma's alter ego. "Emma and I both like to wear colorful clothes, play video games, play the drums, and hang out with friends. I'm quite different from Dark Tamara, since she's the world's best weapons specialist. She invents weapons and gadgets and kicks some major enemy butt. But it's so much fun to play both of them!" ● starred in two Disney Channel Original Movies, Pixel Perfect and Go Figure. Favorite wild animal: monkeys. (But only in the wild—they don't make good pets!) Tastiest fruits and veggies: Sweet potatoes, mangoes, and oranges. Birthday: July 29. Best advice: "Enjoy life, have a blast, and listen to your heart—it knows you best!" |
